My professional background

My career has spanned 25 years and five countries with diverse projects and clients. For me, understanding my clients needs and goals is paramount to delivering successful projects.

I have deep expertise in the design, development and management of electrical building services and distribution systems to required specifications, focusing on economy, safety, reliability, quality and sustainability.

My specialisations

  • Electrical Building Services design.

  • Power systems up to 22kv.

My key project experience

I gained the following project experience working for WSP, prior to joining DMA Engineers:

  • Cairns Courthouse refurbishment (WSP project): I was responsible for providing the electrical design services for the refurbishment, including the introduction of new wireless technology to complement the historic nature of the building.
  • Mossman Emergency Department upgrade (WSP project): responsible for the design and documentation of the electrical and ICT services for the emergency department upgrade and sitewide power upgrade for CHHHS, including developing solutions specific for the refurbishment of an historic building.
  • Mrs Higgins Cookie Factory (WSP project): led the multidisciplinary team to complete the factory, incorporating energy efficient design to meet the clients vision.
  • Hokianga Kura Moari immersion school (WSP project): coordinated the multidisciplinary team for the project, including an in-depth study of the cost benefits of Net Zero Energy and Net Zero Water.
  • Energy Queensland (WSP projects): delivering the design requirements for a variety of new and existing depots.

My qualifications

  • Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering
  • Masters of Engineering Project Management
  • New Zealand Security Association Certificate of Competence Security Consultancy
  • National Diploma in Electrical Engineering: Heavy Current

Awards I have received

  • Project Leader on the Mission Bay Pavilion which received the Heritage and Hospitality Award (2018) from the New Zealand Institute of Architects and was nominated for a Property Award.
  • Nominated for the Growing the Business Award (GIBB South Africa – internal award).
  • Lead Electrical Engineer on the Durban Promenade Upgrade that received the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) Significant Project Award 2010
  • Lead Electrical Engineer on the Durban Point Precinct Timeball Tower that received the SAISC Steel Award 2008
