David Williams

Senior Electrical Designer & BIM Manager
Year joined DMA: 2020

I’ve worked on building services, URD and public lighting projects in the ACT, NSW and QLD. Since moving to Brisbane in 2015, I’ve worked on some fantastic projects including the Anna Meares Velodrome, the Mercy building at ACU, and Cross River Rail.

My professional background

I draw on more than 20 years design experience across a broad-spectrum of projects in the Education, Senior Living, Residential, Health Care, Industrial, Sports & Recreation sectors in Queensland, New South Wales and the A.C.T. This experience allows me to see projects from the client’s perspective, and focus on delivering exactly what they need and want.

I have particular expertise in building services, sports and public lighting design, which requires a high level of consideration to be successful. Lighting design significantly contributes to the architectural vision, and greatly influences the look and feel of a space. It requires an intimate understanding of how a space will be used, and by who – for example, the parameters required to light a function space will vary greatly from those for an Aged Care facility.

My specialisations

  • Building services lighting design.
  • Sports lighting design.
  • Public lighting design.
  • Building Information Management (BIM)

My key project experience

  • Lighting design for the Australian Catholic University Mercy Building which contained some unique architectural elements and offered an opportunity to provide some creative lighting solutions.
  • Lighting design and building services documentation for the UQ BEL Colin Clark Building, St Lucia Refurbishment.
  • Design of the sports and public lighting for Nolan Park BMX Club, Brendale.

My qualifications

  • Associate Dip. Applied Science Architectural Drafting
  • Dip. Security and Risk Management
  • Road and Public Space Lighting Certificate, AAPA

What creating inner beauty means to me

As a lighting designer, I think inner beauty is created when a space is lit to both suit its purpose and enhance the architectural vision. My goal is to create spaces that people find it interesting and comfortable to spend time in.
