When we think of modern school facility design, we think of highly flexible spaces, purposeful furniture, and ever-present technology. But how are school leaders and teachers actually using these Innovative Learning Environments (ILEs) as a pedagogic tool? And how can we best engage them in the design and development process?

In this free webinar hosted by DMA Engineers Education Sector Lead Nicholas Danicic, A/Prof. Wesley Imms from The University of Melbourne will share insights from two important recent research programs on Innovative Learning Environments in Australia and New Zealand:

• The ILETC ARC Linkage Project: Wes will share insights on how teachers can use the untapped potential of (ILEs) to improve learning outcomes for students. Running from 2016-2019 across Australia and New Zealand, ILETC sought to establish whether there’s a link between teachers’ use of ILEs and unlocking the potential of these new learning spaces.
• The Plans to Pedagogy (P2P) program: Wes will share the latest findings and case studies on the ways teachers and leaders can engage with designing, building, and preparing to teach and learn in these new environments. Commencing in 2018, the P2P research program has worked with a small number of highly motivated teachers in a selection of Australian and New Zealand schools.

These varied contexts will not only provide opportunities to unlock massive investments being made in these schools, but also to evaluate longer-term, sustainable quality teaching practices in schools.
