Neil MacLeod

Principal Fire Safety Engineer
Year joined DMA: 2021

Neil is a highly experienced Fire Safety Engineer who specialises in solutions that meet the performance requirements of the National Construction Code and address fire safety-related non-compliances. He brings extensive experience in assessing and addressing the risk of Combustible Cladding to assist building owners to navigate legislative and regulatory requirements. Neil has worked on projects spanning a diverse range of sectors and works alongside stakeholders to develop practical, cost-effective solutions to address fire safety issues and maintain a safe environment for all occupants.

Neil brings a strong skill set focusing on performance-based fire engineering solutions. He is highly competent in developing Building Fire Safety Risk Assessments, fire and smoke modelling and simulation and developing evacuation models and simulations. His clients have confidence in his ability to assess and improve the level of safety in their building or apply his extensive experience to develop new solutions.

It was great experience working with DMA, the team understood what needs to be done, provided additional information about regulatory requirements, and delivered in the most professional manner. – Masaud Akhter, Sun Metals

My career highlights:

  • Queensland University of Technology (QUT) | Rationalising full or partial retention, via fire engineering, of combustible cladding on nine buildings across the Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove campuses of QUT. These solutions relied on existing features of the buildings and additional measures to mitigate the risk posed by the combustible cladding.
  • Rowes Precinct Development | Preparing fire engineering solutions for the Rowes Precinct Development in Toowoomba, to rationalise the proposed fire compartmentation and the fire rating of structural elements throughout the existing building.
  • Woolworths eComm Expansion Projects | Working on over 20 eComm expansion projects for Woolworths across Queensland to review and rationalise the various impacts of the expansion works on fire compartments, smoke exhaust systems and egress provisions.
