Neil MacLeod

Fire Safety Engineer
Year joined DMA: 2021

Neil is a highly experienced Fire Safety Engineer who specialises in solutions that meet the performance requirements of the National Construction Code and address fire safety-related non-compliances. He brings extensive experience in creating Building Fire Safety Risk Assessments (BFSRA) in relation to Combustible Cladding to assist building owners to comply with their legislative and regulatory requirements. Neil has worked on projects spanning a diverse range of sectors and is currently studying a Masters of Fire Safety Engineering. He plans to continue to work with his clients to develop practical, cost-effective solutions to address fire safety issues and maintain a safe environment for all occupants.

Neil brings a strong skill set focusing on performance-based fire engineering solutions. He is highly competent in developing Building Fire Safety Risk Assessments, fire and smoke modelling and simulation and developing evacuation models and simulations. His clients have confidence in his ability to assess and improve the level of safety in their building or apply his extensive experience to develop new solutions.

It was great experience working with DMA, the team understood what needs to be done, provided additional information about regulatory requirements, and delivered in the most professional manner. – Masaud Akhter, Sun Metals

My career highlights:

  • Working with his previous employer, Fire Engineers Australia, Neil developed a strategy to ensure occupant safety when the Central Plaza One carpark’s use was shifted to temporary overnight accommodation for the homeless as part of the Beddown Pilot Program.
  • Preparing fire engineering solutions for several fitout and upgrade projects at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre with previous employer Fire Engineers Australia, often relying on Fire Dynamics Simulation (FDS) modelling to rationalise and consolidate the fire safety strategy of the building.
  • Conducting site inspections and Building Fire Safety Risk Assessments for Combustible Cladding for all Queensland Westfield Shopping Centres, with a view to retain existing Combustible Cladding, mitigate fire spread risk and secure safe occupant evacuation and fire brigade intervention.
