Ambrose Treacy College expansion

Located in Indooroopilly, Ambrose Treacy College is a Catholic College for boys in years 4 to 12 that opened in 2015. Formerly Nudgee Junior College, Edmund Rice Education Australia acquired the school with a vision to expand the cohort from Year 4-7 students to Year 4-12 students. This significant expansion and influx of additional senior-school students required a number of new classrooms to be built on campus to cater for the growing school population.
Modern design to complement a historic campus

One of the critical design features of the new development was the need for the new buildings to complement the historic architecture of the existing buildings on campus. Working closely with the project architects Fulton Trotter, some of the key features of DMA͛s design included:

  • Electronic scoreboards in the new basketball court
  • Short throw data projectors in each new classroom
  • Variable speed EC fans installed in the hospitality kitchen, providing a flexible design while minimising noise and energy use
  • Modern large air volume fans, Big Ass Fans, installed in the Sport Court outdoor learning environment, providing improved comfort conditions for students
  • Innovative thermal insulation spray applied to the technology rooms͛ ceiling soffits.

This allowed for seamless and neat integration with exposed services, while maintaining thermal energy performance of the floor above.

From humble beginnings to premier private school

DMA’s involvement in the project ensured the expansion was completed with well-integrated technology and built-in comfort without detracting from the beauty of the older campus. A major benefit we delivered was achieved through 3D design, which allowed for close coordination and significantly minimised visually obtrusive external mechanical plant, enhancing the aesthetics of the learning environment.

Completed at the end of 2017 and opened for the new school year in January 2018, the expansion project transformed Ambrose Treacy College from a small school catering for Year 4-7 students, to a school capable of educating hundreds of students for nine years of their school life.
