Logan Hospital – Ward 2F Refurbishment

Logan Hospital is a major public health facility servicing the Logan and surrounding areas. DMA Engineers was part of the team engaged to deliver the conversion of Ward 2F from a maternity ward into a temporary facility for the digital system implementation team.
Cost-effective Temporary Accommodation for Digitalisation Team

Ward 2F was a vacant clinical maternity ward with plans to be redeveloped to suit administration and consulting type activities. Prior to full redevelopment, the client required temporary accommodation for the technical team delivering digitisation to the hospital. This involved a partial fit out of the ward for the digitalisation team, whilst utilising as many aspects of the proposed final development as possible in order to achieve a cost-effective outcome, minimising rework and abortive works.

Analysing the immediate and future services requirement

DMA analysed the services requirements for both the temporary and proposed final developments and ensured that services installed were also suitable for retention in the proposed final arrangement, such as:

  • Data and power outlets delivered for the more onerous requirements in addition to utilising soft wiring for ease of future amendment.
  • Air conditioning loads and outlet requirements delivered for the higher load conditions, whilst balanced initially to suit the temporary accommodation load requirements.
  • Ceiling items such as lights, detectors, speakers, supply air diffusers positioned to accommodate future partition requirements, thereby avoiding future amendments.
Reduced redundant and abortive works

The approach undertaken assisted the client in delivering a solution to accommodate the digitisation team which:

  • Reduces project delivery periods for the final development by reducing the time required for design.
  • Reduced overall costs by delivering services predominantly suitable for the final development requiring minimal additional works.
