Milk distribution warehouse, Bundaberg

To meet increasing local and export demand, an Australian dairy company with a global distribution network needed a new milk distribution warehouse facility in Bundaberg, Central Queensland to increase delivery efficiency for their growing product range.
Developing a greener warehouse by reducing energy consumption

The warehouse consists of a 500m² cold room, along with an ante room, dry store and 100m² of supporting office space. External to the lightweight steel frame building there is approximately 3,000 m² of hardstand area for truck parking and movements.

One of the client’s key objectives with the development was to utilise the latest technologies in building construction methods and services in order to reduce their energy consumption in the warehouse and associated cool rooms. Asset protection was also a key concern to minimise damage in the event of fire.

A multidisciplinary approach to deliver an optimum result

The DMA Engineers team was engaged as part of the Evans Built team to document the electrical and mechanical services for the new warehouse, and to manage engagement with Ergon and NBN for connections to site.

Some of the specific services that were incorporated into the warehouse included:

  • Low-energy luminaires specifically designed for cold environments.
  • An early suppression fast response (ESFR) sprinkler system, designed to ensure the high piled storage asset protection system met the relevant standards and client requirements.

In line with the client’s requirement for reduced energy consumption:

  • All mechanical and electrical services for the warehouse were selected with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind.
  • All internal, external and emergency lighting was selected for its high efficiency, long life and low maintenance LED light source.
