Safer Buildings deadlines for combustible cladding extended for building owners
Safer Buildings deadlines for combustible cladding extended for building owners

It was announced yesterday that the Queensland Government will provide an extension to the compliance period for Part 2 and Part 3a of its Safer Buildings checklist for combustible cladding.

This follows a significant number of requests to the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) from building owners and body corporate managers for extensions to the Part 2 deadline, which was originally due on 31 May.

Queensland Minister for Housing and Public works Mick de Brenni has confirmed that the two-month extension would see the:

  • stage 2 deadline extended to 31 July 2019.
  • part 3a deadline until 31 October 2019.

As part of the extension, Mr de Brenni has encouraged building owners who have been assessed to complete Part 2 to not further delay seeking advice or assistance from qualified building professionals who specialise in combustible cladding.

He also advised that the Queensland Government would be providing additional technical information to help interpret the regulations.
