DMA Engineers and the University of Queensland Healthy Ageing Initiative are thrilled to welcome three event partners on board for our 2021 Longevity by Design charrette.
This year, the theme of the charrette will be FEELS LIKE HOME. Drawing inspiration from the global events of 2020 and 2021 that significantly impacted residential aged care facilities in Australia and around the world, designers, members of industry and progressive providers will be invited to create innovative designs to re-imagine aged care design in the post-pandemic era.
To provide real-world context for the design challenge, three residential aged-care providers have joined as Event Partners to provide real-world locations for the design teams to work on. We welcome to Longevity by Design 2021: Fresh Hope Care, Southern Cross Care Queensland, and St Vincent’s Care Services.
A minimum of five teams will work on each setting. While the facility in its community and physical setting will provide a real-world context to the design challenge, the charrette is a theoretical challenge, and we encourage blue sky, innovative thinking for a longer-term.
A leader from each of our event partners will be in attendance on the day to provide an overview of some of the challenges that were encountered as a result of managing the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
Winning teams will then be given the opportunity to present their pitches to the leadership teams and staff of the aged care providers, and to other industry bodies and interested stakeholders as requested. It is also at the discretion of the panel members to invite other teams to present as well.
